The Radio and Television Station You Select -
May Be Owned by One of Our Own

In the years of 1963 to 1965, a young man attended Lyman Ward, after having been dismissed from high school in Birmingham. His two years made an impact on his life.

While a student, he loved communications and he wanted to be a disc jockey. The school made arrangements and he was allowed to get his radio license while in school. This was only the beginning. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and earned a degree in Radio and Television in 1969. Because of the experience he received at Lyman Ward, he worked for a commercial radio station as a "DJ" during his four years at Southern Mississippi.

As opportunity would have it, he continued to pursue his dream. His growth in the industry led to Nashville, Tennessee. During the years, he moved into ownership. His portfolio has included ownership of more than 30 radio and television stations across the United States. Today, he owns the CBS affiliate in Springfield, MO, the ABC affiliate in Lubbock. TX, and the Fox affiliate in Billings, MT. He also owns the Falcon Press in Nashville, TN.

He states, "Where can you go today and receive the support given at Lyman Ward? They will not let you fail. It is just the program I needed. The discipline just turned me around. They all wanted me to succeed. They made me want to be something. It taught me that you always continue to grow - do not rest on your laurels. Lyman Ward is my greatest achievement. Nothing has topped that!"

To Mr. Victor H. Rumore, Class of 1965, we are indeed proud that we have played such an integral part of his life after Lyman Ward. Next time you turn the channel, you just may be viewing a station owned by one of our own!

Comments: I am one of the Class of '67 that's still around (LWMA '65-'67). I went on to Ole Miss to study banking. My first job was in banking, which didn't last but a few years. It was too dull, so I moved to Houston and became involved in the international oil trading business. Now that's not so dull!!!! Boy, I sometimes wish I could go back to the dull banking days. LWMA didn't teach me about risk taking. I've had to learn that the hard way through on the job training. I remember everyone in the '65-'67 years so everyone out there from that era let me hear from you.

Consolidated Alumni News from the YEARS…

     I. Where all these news items came from.

This is and will be a combined listing of news from alumni from three different sources:

Source #1 = the Alumni Registration Form at www.lwalumni.org. Starting in December 2002

Source #2 = the Guest Book at www.lwalumni.org. Starting in December 1999

Source #3 = the L.W.M.A. school paper, "The Sentinel." And posted to the LWMA NEWS page at www.lwalumni.org. Starting in September, 1998

Source #4 = the Alumni Office at L.W.M.A. - as we receive it.

Source #5 = the TAPS Page at www.lwalumni.org. Starting in Novermber 1998

Source #6 = the Alumni Message Board at www.lwalumni.org.

II. This is the first attempt to compile the Alumni news from these sources. This first cut will be that information we have from source #1 and #2.

III. Disclaimer: The information supplied to this website and complied in these pages can be out of date and inaccurate. Some information is incomplete. All the news we have comes through the school, the Alumni Office, E-mail, and the Message Board.

IV. All e-mail addresses have been deleted because of these three reasons.

#1. We do not post a person's E-mail addresses to web pages without specific written permission from that person.

#2. That permission procedure is taken care of by our webmaster, Phillip Potts '63. He maintains the "Alumni E-mail Address Page." In order to have your name posted on that page you MUST send your permission directly to him via E-mail. Don't send it to me. Phillip is our webmaster and this is his policy.

#3. There is no way we could maintain these pages and the "Alumni E-mail Address" page. E-mail addresses become out of date very quiclky.
