Does anyone know the meaning of the old school patch from the 1950's or any history around it? All we know is the "VIM" means:

If you do let me know,

Sometime in 1984 the school patch changed. This will explain the meaning of the new school patch.
The following is a quote from the December 1984 Sentinel:

Royal blue and gold are the colors of the Academy. The columns and arches feature Tallapoosa Hall. The column dividing the shield into parts with the lamp of knowledge allude to education, mentally and physically. The crossed saber and rifle represent military training. The disc commemorates the first donation of twenty-five cents in 1898 to establish "The Southern Industrial Institute" known now as Lyman Ward Military Academy. The cross is from the state flag alludes to the location of the Academy within the State of Alabama.

I think that Colonel Smith and Colonel Moreman, through their connections with the Army, asked that Army heraldry division to design the new patch. As I recall, the script above is exactly the wording that the Army sent with the new design.
