===== Alumni Meeting News =====
If you missed the Alumni meeting and social on May 1, you missed a good time. The meeting was held in the new auditorium with good attendance. This gave everyone a chance to see the new building after completion. The meeting was conducted by the Alumni President, Roscoe Prater('47).
MG Lou Hennies, new President of LWMA, was introduced to the group. He told of his plans for the future of the school including some new construction projects. New computers have been placed in-the new computer lab now located in the basement of the library. These will enable the students more access to the newest trends in technology. He stated the three components of a good school were: discipline, academics and athletics.
Frank Barnes('60) presented a portrait of Col. Wesley Smith to be hung in the auditorium bearing his name.
Judge John Patterson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, spoke to the group concerning the board and the school. He introduced Rev. Von McQueen('66) and Ben Russell, members of the board. He thanked the Dixon Foundation for their support through the years.
Under business, the President said the two scholarships were given this past year and urged members to donate to these since the interest does not cover the expense of these. Also the ad was placed in the school yearbook from the Alumni Association to the Senior Class of 1999. A picture of Col. Albert Hovey, will be placed in the lobby of Tallapoosa Hall soon with the other past presidents.
A plaque was presented to the Dixon Foundation by the Alumni Association Executive Director, COL Wesley P. Smith('47), for their support to the school and the association. It was accepted by Mrs. Martha Dixon.
A resolution was passed to offer their commendations and appreciation to graduates and former students of SII and LWMA for their devoted service in the military efforts of the United States*.
The new officers for the coming year are: President, Bill Thomason('69); Vice-President, Tim Parker('70); Treasurer, T.A.Moore('80); Secretary, Phil Potts('63).

===== More Alumni News ===== LWMA Alums - Achieve Excellence
Two recent graduates of the Academy are already making their mark of excellence on the world.
Cadet COL Kevin Hey, LWMA Class of '95, has been selected as wing commander for the Auburn University Air Force ROTC detachment. Hay was selected for this position based on his leadership ability. Auburn's Air Force ROTC detachment is again ranked as the No.1 such unit in the nation. Hay is the son of Ken and Bambi Hay of Dadeville, AL. He will graduate in 2000 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He graduated from LWMA as class valedictorian, and served as drum major in the Marching Band for three years.
U. S. Marine Lance CPL Brian D. Nicknadarvich, Class of '97, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty. Nicknadarvich joined the Marine Corps in January, 1998.
New President Meets Alumni
LWMA's newly appointed President MG Clyde A. Hennies, was visited by alumnus Jeremy M. Farber('95) in the Dixon Library on Military Day, May 1, 1999. MG Hennies addressed the annual Alumni meeting in the Wesley P. Smith Auditorium later that day. Farber a native of Huntsville, AL, is a former LWMA Battalion Commander who graduated in May form the Citadel in Charleston, SC, with a B.S. degree in accounting.
===== TAPS =====
A memorial service was held on April 7, 1999 in the Dixon All Faith Chapel for Cadet PFC Chase Brandon Scott Cumber who was died in a tragic automobile accident on March 27, 1999. Cadet Cumber and his mother, Lynn T. Cumber, were both killed on the way home to Douglas, GA, for Spring Break.
Cadet Cumber enrolled at LWMA as a sophomore on Sept. 28, 1998, and lived in Bravo Co. He was born on April 26, 1983.
